Review of Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils

The third and final consultation stage in the review of the Scheme for the Establishment of Community Scheme ended on 25 March 2016 and its outcome was reported to a Special Meeting of the Council on 30 March 2016.

The council agreed to approve the retention of 4 community councils in the wider Irvine area (namely, Irvine, Dreghorn, Girdle Toll and Springside) and include in the Scheme a provision to allow the option of postal and/or electronic voting at community council elections in the future. These matters had been the subject of consultation during the second consultation period. More information here.

The council also approved the publication of a revised Community Council Scheme, incorporating the changes previously agreed at its special meeting on 17 February 2016 and the further changes set out above.

The revised Scheme for establishment of community councils (PDF, 11.5mb) is now in force. The council’s Economy and Communities Service (Connected Communities) will be carrying out work to raise awareness of community councils and their role, ahead of community council elections to be held later in 2016.
