Information Workshops about Community Councils

Following a review of Community Councils in North Ayrshire, The council have been working hard to raise awareness and participation in Community Councils. As part of this, they have been offering support to existing Community Councils, encouraging local people to set up a new community council where at the moment there is not one active and also trying to get more people involved.

At the moment, there are 9 active and 8 inactive Community Councils in North Ayrshire. These are:

ACTIVE: 

Arran, Cumbraes, Fairlie, Irvine, Kilbirnie & Glengarnock, Kilwinning, Largs, Skelmorlie and West Kilbride.

INACTIVE:

Ardrossan, Beith, Dalry, Dreghorn, Girdle Toll & Bourtreehill, Saltcoats, Springside and Stevenston.

Following an initial round of awareness raising sessions, they will be delivering follow up information workshops. These will offer a little more information on the structure, roles and governance of Community Councils. These are open to anyone who is interested in possibly becoming involved in their local Community Council. The dates and times of these are below. The Community Council elections will be taking place during November. For existing Community Council’s, dates are currently being set and will be circulated soon (the deadline for nominations to join an existing Community Council is 7 days before the election date for that area). For setting up a new Community Council, the current deadline for requests to set one up in Friday 7th October.
